Windows and doors
Our own FENSA-registered glazing division. Supplied and fitted without the showroom markup, guaranteed for ten years.
We fit windows and doors as builders rather than as a glazing company, which changes two things: what it costs, and what happens when the opening behind the frame turns out to be in worse condition than it looked.
Why it costs less through us
A window from a high street showroom carries the showroom, the marketing and the sales commission before it carries any glass. We have none of those. The units are the same units, from the same fabricators, to the same specification. The difference is overhead, not product.
There is no salesperson coming to your house for two hours, and no price that halves if you say you are thinking about it.
What a builder notices that a fitter does not
Replacing a window means taking one out, and what is behind it is a building question rather than a glazing one.
Lintels. Older openings sometimes have no lintel at all, or one that has failed and is being held up by the frame you are about to remove. A fitter will put the new window in and go. It becomes somebody’s problem later.
Cills and reveals. Rot in a timber cill or a soaked reveal has a cause, usually water getting in above it, and fitting a new window over the top hides it rather than fixing it.
Structural openings. Widening an opening, or putting in bifolds where a wall used to be, needs a beam sized by an engineer and bearing onto proper padstones. That is structural work, and it is what we do anyway.
FENSA registration
Replacement windows and external doors have to comply with Building Regulations. We are FENSA registered, which means we self-certify the work and register it, and the certificate arrives without you applying to Building Control or paying a separate fee.
Keep it. Your solicitor will ask for it when you sell, and its absence is a routine cause of delay in a conveyancing chain.
What we fit
uPVC, aluminium and timber. Casements, sashes, bifolds, sliding doors, French doors, front doors and roof glazing. On period properties we would usually rather repair original joinery than replace it, and we will say so.
Our glazing carries an insurance-backed guarantee through the Glass and Glazing Federation.

Why are your windows cheaper than a showroom's?

All supplied and fitted double glazing carries an insurance-backed guarantee through the Glass and Glazing Federation, so the cover stands independently of us.
